About Me

My name is Joseph Rhys Galvin. I’m a practising artist & portrait painter,from Wales in the UK. I’m available for portrait commissions throughout the year. I have exhibited on numerous occasions with the Royal Society of Portrait Painters(RP), the Pastel Society, and selected for exhibitions such as the Wales Portrait Award, and the Kyffin Williams Drawing Prize.

In 2007 I was the recipient of the first Bulldog Portrait Bursary from the RP. In the same year I was awarded the Elizabeth Greenshield Foundation grant, an international award for figurative artists.

About the Blog

I have published this blog to discuss my own practice as an artist & portrait painter, and to share ideas regarding contemporary figurative/representational painting, including education. I will also use this blog as a place to discuss painting & drawing in an historical context, as so much inspiration for my own painting comes from this wider tradition.
